Why Consider the Marin Headlands 2?

The Marin Headlands 2 combines a carbon frame and full carbon fork with equipment aimed at riding mixed surfaces. Think linking quiet lanes with gravel tracks, exploring forest roads or planning a longer adventure away from your usual road loop.

Its Shimano GRX 1x12-speed drivetrain pairs a single front chainring with a wide-ranging cassette. This keeps gear selection straightforward while providing useful low gears for steep climbs. Hydraulic disc brakes offer controlled braking when the route heads downhill or conditions turn wet.

A particularly useful feature is the TranzX dropper seatpost. Lowering the saddle gives you more room to move around the bike on steep or uneven descents, something adventurous gravel riders may appreciate.

Is the Headlands 1 Better for Your Budget?

At £1,899, the Marin Headlands 1 brings the range below the £2,000 mark and costs £300 less than the Headlands 2.

It still offers a carbon frame and fork, Shimano GRX 11-speed gearing, hydraulic disc brakes and tubeless-ready wheels. For riders interested in longer leisure rides and exploring gravel tracks, that makes it a worthwhile alternative to consider.

The Headlands 2’s 12-speed equipment and dropper post are the main reasons to consider spending the extra. Your choice will depend on your budget and how adventurous you want your routes to become.
