With darker evenings arriving, a dependable light set becomes an essential part of your cycling kit. The Giant Recon HL600 and TL200 Combo Light Set is currently advertised at £59.99 at Tredz, against a £74.99 RRP, saving £15, or 20%. The retailer lists the black set as in stock.
Combining a 600-lumen front light with a rear light offering up to 200 lumens, this rechargeable pairing also includes automatic light-sensing modes.

The smart modes respond to surrounding light levels, helping you move between daytime riding and darker conditions without repeatedly changing settings.
At the front, the HL600 uses a daytime flashing pattern rated at 100–200 lumens, switching to a 300-lumen output in darker conditions. You can manually select the full 600-lumen setting when you need more illumination.
The TL200 rear light uses a 200-lumen daytime flash, changing to a lower-output, 30-lumen combination mode at night. That means its headline 200-lumen output is a flashing setting, rather than a continuous beam.
Battery life depends on the mode you choose. Giant publishes the following runtimes:
| Light and mode | Output | Claimed runtime |
|---|---|---|
| Front, high | 600 lumens | 1.5 hours |
| Front, medium | 300 lumens | 3.5 hours |
| Front, low | 150 lumens | 7 hours |
| Rear, high steady | 100 lumens | 2.5 hours |
| Rear, high flash | 200 lumens | 6 hours |
| Rear, smart night | 30 lumens | 10 hours |
The front has an IPX6 water-resistance rating, while the rear is rated IPX7, useful specifications for wet-weather riding. Actual runtime will vary with conditions, battery condition and mode selection.
BikeRadar awarded the set 4.5 out of 5, praising the front beam, strong rear visibility and light-sensing features.
Its testing recorded just over two hours from the front light on its highest setting, although output began stepping down at around 90 minutes. That distinction matters, the light remaining switched on does not mean it maintains full brightness throughout.
The main drawback was the front light’s older micro-USB charging port. The review also noted that the rear mounting strap could struggle with particularly deep aero seatposts. These are findings from BikeRadar’s testing, rather than a Velostrive hands-on review.
For a lower-cost option, the Proviz Canopus and Vega Light Set is advertised at £29.99.
Its Canopus front light provides 300 lumens and an anti-glare lens designed to direct the beam downwards. Both Proviz lights carry IPX4 ratings, and Proviz claims up to 6.5 hours from the Vega rear light.
For riding mainly on illuminated streets, the Proviz set could be a sensible budget choice. The Giant offers a higher maximum front output, automatic modes and higher water-resistance ratings, making it worth considering for mixed commutes with darker stretches.
At £59.99, the Giant Recon HL600 and TL200 looks like a well-priced option for commuting and everyday road riding. Its automatic modes add convenience, while the independent review provides encouraging evidence about beam quality and rear visibility.
The main consideration is how long you need the brightest front setting. For extended rides on unlit roads, allow for the claimed 90-minute high-mode runtime and consider whether a light with longer sustained output would suit your route better.
