Shimano CL-MT001 SPD Cleats For nearly three decades, the Shimano SM-SH51 SPD cleat has remained unchanged, offering riders reliable performance since its introduction in 1995. While pedals and shoe designs have evolved, the SM-SH51 stood the test of time with enduring compatibility. Now, Shimano introduces the Trail/Enduro CL-MT001 SPD Cleat, bringing a new level of versatility and ease of use. Shimano design and features The CL-MT001 introduces multi-entry engagement, allowing riders to clip in using the traditional toe-first method, by stepping directly on top, or heel-first then toe. This design greatly benefits trail and enduro riders when re-engaging quickly after removing a foot in technical sections or fast corners. Engineered to complement Shimano’s next-generation XTR PD-M9220 Enduro/Trail pedals, the cleat enhances grip and stability. Shimano performance across disciplines The advantages extend beyond trail riding. Gravel riders gain faster re-engagement after dismounts, a feature especially useful in cyclocross racing. Entry-level riders benefit from the easier learning curve, reducing the common fear of tipping over when first adapting to SPD pedals. Road and lifestyle cyclists will also appreciate the improved walkability, thanks to a thin, tapered design that reduces grinding on hard surfaces. Shimano SPD compatibility The CL-MT001 is backwards compatible with all current and previous SPD pedals, allowing riders to upgrade instantly and enjoy the new level of flexibility and performance.
