The Maxxis Assegai Downhill 3C MaxxGrip TR Tyre (29 x 2.5”) is built for grip, support and control on demanding downhill tracks. Its new downhill casing improves compliance over rough ground while staying firm under hard cornering and heavy impacts. The soft 3C MaxxGrip compound and Greg Minnaar-designed tread provide reliable traction across loose, rocky and wet terrain.Key Features and Benefits:New downhill casing: Progressive casing stiffness lets the tread move over small bumps while keeping the sidewalls well supported. This improves contact on rough ground, reduces tyre movement in hard turns and helps protect the rim during impacts.Lower-pressure support: The new casing can run around 2-3psi less than the previous downhill design without losing sidewall stability. This slows tyre rebound and creates a calmer feel, helping the tread stay settled over roots, rocks and braking bumps.3C MaxxGrip compound: Three rubber compounds balance tread support with a soft outer surface. The soft rubber conforms to wet roots and rock edges, while the firmer base helps each knob keep its shape under braking and cornering loads.Greg Minnaar signature tread: The tread combines proven traits from the Minion DHR II, High Roller and Shorty. This gives strong braking grip, a smooth move onto the side knobs and steady traction as the bike leans into a turn.Tall, supported tread knobs: Deep knobs cut through dust, loam and loose soil to reach firmer ground below. Their supported shape limits excess flex, so the tyre stays controlled on loose-over-hard surfaces and wet technical sections.Tubeless Ready 120x2TPI construction: The dual-ply casing, butyl insert and secure folding bead work with sealant for a strong tubeless set-up. This supports lower pressures, improves rim protection and removes the inner tube as a source of pinch flats. On steep and technical descents, predictable tyre behaviour makes it easier to hold a clean line. The Assegai stays supported under heavy braking, keeps its shape when loaded through turns and settles quickly after impacts. This reduces unwanted movement and gives the rider consistent control as the trail surface changes.Choose the Maxxis Assegai 29 x 2.5 for downhill racing, bike park laps and technical gravity riding. Its high-grip rubber, reinforced casing and dependable tread provide the support needed for rough tracks and demanding conditions.
